Introduction to the ISO 14001 Program for Schools
The purpose of this ISO 14001 program is to create an interactive curriculum
In which students of all ages and grade levels participate in identifying, planning, implementing, and continually improving an environmental framework and structure that promotes positive, sustained environmental stewardship.
In other words, students will learn and discover how to identify and implement programs that will help the environment!
How exactly do we help the environment? How do we preserve our natural resources for future generations? What can you as a student do to help the environment?
If you were to survey multiple groups of 100 students each and pose the question, “Is it important to treat our environment with respect, to preserve our natural resources for future generations”, the response would be nearly unanimous in its reply “Yes! Yes! And Yes!”. However, the answer to the hypothetical follow-up question, “ How do we preserve our natural resources for future generations” may not necessarily receive the same unanimity of response.
Course Purpose
We hope this ISO 14001 Environmental Management System program serves two purposes:
1. Lessens the impact of school activities and that could potentially hurt the environment
2. Creates a self-sustaining, student-led program that can be passed down from one graduating class to the next.
Each class that inherits the ISO 14001 school program will have the opportunity to maintain and improve upon the environmental benefits established by the outgoing graduating class.
